2015 Reading Challenge

Published February 2, 2015 by HomburgerNaeNae

HEAR YE, HEAR YE.

A CHALLENGE HAS BEEN ISSUED IN THE KINGDOM FOR THE YEAR OF FIFTEEN AND TWO THOUSAND.

ALL NOBLE READERS OF SOUND BODY AND MIND SHOULD ADHERE TO IT AND WIN FOR THEMSELVES HONOR, RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND THE ESTEEM OF THE NOBLE LADY.

Nah, not really. But it would be cool to wear armor and ride off for a challenge, right? Right?

.

Well, this kind of challenge won’t require that. This is the 2015 reading challenge, as discovered in the kingdom of internet. Behold:

The concept of this challenge is that throughout 2015 you have to fully read through 50 (yes, 5-0) books according to the categories listed above. Each book cannot count for more than one category and you have to finish it, not just pick it up, read the intro, and get the basic idea of the story. It can be a book you’ve read before, but you do need to read it all the way through.

If you haven’t been able to stick to your New Year’s Resolution now that it’s been a month (or if you just looked at your calendar, realized that the first month is gone, and remembered that you never got around to making a resolution at all) then make this challenge your new task. Even if you don’t finish on time, it’s a noble quest to attempt.

I started this challenge at the beginning of the year so this is my check in. For the month of January, I read the following books for the following categories:

  • Frankenstein (A book by a female author)
  • Robinson Crusoe (A book more than 100 years old)
  • Dante’s Vita Nuova (A book set somewhere you’ve always wanted to visit- for me this is Italy and specifically Rome)
  • Walt Disney: An American Original (A book that made you cry)

So, yeah, that’s where I stand for the first month. Not bad- and only half of them were required reading for school (yes, that counts as long as it’s an actual book and not a textbook). If you want to make a difference in your own life this year by challenging yourself to read more and to take books more seriously then let’s go- it’s February already so that means it’s time to get down to business.
