The Motor City Comicon is coming up.
I am. SO. EXCITED.
Just today, there was a huge rush of updates on the Motor City Comicon page, detailing some of the guests that will be there. There were only a few people that I recognized though… one of them is a member of the band The Monkees, and that’s pretty cool since I grew up listening to them a ton.
But the MAIN guest I’m excited to meet? Yvonne Craig. AKA, Batgirl from the 1966 Batman TV series.
Now, I will definitely admit that her portrayal as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl isn’t my most favorite version of the character, but I have my reasons. First of all, the character had only just been introduced, so obviously she wasn’t as deep as she is now. Also, a lot of the lame dialogue and, especially, the way Batman and Robin act totally stupid around her, isn’t the fault of the actress or the characters, it’s the fault of the writers. So I’ll definitely not hold that against Yvonne.
Reasons I’m excited to meet her? Well, she DID play a very iconic character on the series that made me fall in love with the world of Batman to begin with. Not only that, but if she had not been introduced into the TV series, Batgirl/Barbara Gordon probably would not have become the popular character that she is now. She even has her own comic book line now in the New 52. Personally I’d love to ask Yvonne if she’s followed the character through the years, and if she has, what she thinks of the intense changes that Babs/BG has gone through.
Supposedly there’s more to come from the Motor City Comicon. But for now, I am so happy with what there already is. Yvonne Craig. Batgirl will be there. I am so happy. ^_^
On a semi but not really related note, I’m also looking forward to cosplaying this year as Raven from Teen Titans. Finished my costume and I personally think it’s awesome. Check it:
Yup. I’m a happy nerd.
Don’t know who Raven is? Well for a basics in the comics, you could just read the wikipedia entry about her. Click the picture below for the link.
Poor Robin. He’s always getting slapped. But if he’s been reading Twilight, then he deserves it.
Or, just watch this random nine second clip of Raven meets chicken:
Anyways. That’s who I’m dressing up as. And I’m pretty darn excited about it. I’m pretty darn excited about the whole dang Con. Something tells me that it will rock this year.
